By covering swimmer levels 5, 6, 7 and 8, this course suits students comfortable with front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke and have some experience with entries and basic interval training.
At the higher levels of this course, your child will also learn swimming interval training, in-water workouts, egg-beater kick, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and more!
In our advanced swim classes, your child will learn:
The student-to-instructor ratio is 3:1.
Swimmer levels 5 to 8 are advanced swimmers. Detailed main challenges per level are specified in our Learning Progression section.
In general, advanced swimmers will be able to swim efficiently in front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, as well as to execute some specific skills such as eggbeater kick, scissor kick, elementary back crawl, and competitive dives.
Yes. Level 8 is usually the most difficult one, as the swimmer must achieve high standards for all strokes, as well as swimming continuously (endurance) with proper technique and push-off glides.
The advanced program is offered only at the Havergal location.
Yes. Some students will find it difficult to swim continuously, keeping proper technique on each length. Try to avoid missing classes, and add more cardio activities throughout the week (whether swimming or other sports).
After achieving level swimmer 8, students can choose between two different paths (or do both!):
– Swim team: 1-hour-long lessons, whether once or twice a week, in which swimmers will be learning the foundations for butterfly, competitive dives, and competitive flip turns, as well as improving their technique and endurance. Visit our Swim Team program to better understand what’s next.
–Lifesaving Skills: most of our students aim to become National Lifeguards and Swim Instructors. For that goal, Frank’s Swim School offers the Patrol Awards and Bronze Awards. Depending on age and skills, some swimmers will be able to skip the Patrol Awards and go directly to the Bronze Star certification.
