Learn Everything You Need To Be An Effective Swim Instructor And Keep People Safe In Public Pools

With the Swim & Lifesaving Instructor courses, students learn how to teach and evaluate various swimming strokes, while also getting familiar with the materials for the Lifesaving Society’s Canadian Swim Patrol Program, and all three Bronze Awards.

With the National Lifeguard and Standard First Aid courses, students can earn the main legal qualification for lifeguarding recognized throughout Canada, as well as a comprehensive understanding of first aid and CPR with an emphasis on how this is used in lifeguarding situations.

What our National Lifeguard & Swim Instructor Intensive Course covers?

Our Intensive Multi-Week Course Covers Swim & Lifesaving Instructor And The National Lifeguard & Standard First Aid Training Material, Giving You All You Need To Start Working In Swim Teaching Or Lifeguarding In One Consolidated Setting.

By bringing this knowledge together in a single intensive course, our experienced instructors are able to provide a more consistent and focused experience, helping students to apply this knowledge in real-world situations.

Students will learn:

  • How to work as an effective instructor, teaching students the correct form for swimming strokes, aquatic entries, and basic safety.
  • How to teach and evaluate students who are working towards the Lifesaving Society’s Canadian Swim Patrol Program, Bronze Awards, and Lifesaving Fitness qualifications.
  • All the materials necessary to complete the Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard Qualification (pool option).
  • A detailed understanding of first aid, including the legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, and more.

  • Age range: 15+ Years
  • Must have earned a Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross award before starting this course

FAQ - Lifeguard & Swim Instructor

Students must have a current Bronze Cross certification and be at least 15 years old. Please visit our Learning Progression page to better understand what to expect from Bronze Cross swimmer.

Yes. The most difficult skill to achieve is to swim 400m within 10 minutes.

The Lifeguard and Swim Instructor program is offered only at the Havergal location.

Yes. Some students will find it difficult to swim continuously, keeping proper technique on each length. Try to avoid missing classes, and add more cardio activities throughout the week (whether swimming or other sports).

Your child is now certified to work in an aquatic facility, whether as an instructor or as a lifeguard.

Swimmers can also join the swim team, which is a 1-hour-long lesson. They will be learning the foundations for butterfly, competitive dives, and competitive flip turns, as well as improving their technique and endurance.
